When a plan change updates your subscriptions

When you upgrade or downgrade, the new commission does not apply instantly to subscriptions you already sold. Each subscription is updated about a week before its own next renewal. For monthly subscriptions, this means the change can take up to a full month to be reflected everywhere.

Imagine you upgrade from Free (10%) to Pro (2%) today, and you have ten monthly subscribers spread across the month:

  • A subscriber who renews tomorrow keeps the 10% rate on tomorrow’s charge — the system updates their subscription in time only if Stripe’s pre-renewal sync window catches it.
  • A subscriber who renews in two weeks gets the 2% rate.
  • A subscriber who renews 25 days from now gets the 2% rate.

After about 30 days, every subscription is on the new commission.

Stripe sends an “upcoming invoice” event roughly seven days before each renewal. Grouptizer uses that window to update the commission on the subscription so the next charge applies the new rate. Subscriptions that don’t renew in that window simply aren’t touched yet.

Your new sales (anyone subscribing after your plan change) always use the new commission from the very first charge. Only the existing subscriptions have the lag.
