Failed payments
If a charge fails on a subscription renewal — usually because your card expired, has insufficient funds, or your bank declined the charge — the subscription enters Past due. Stripe retries the charge automatically a few times.
What happens
Section titled “What happens”- Past due — the first charge attempt failed. Stripe schedules retries (typically over 1–2 weeks). You get an email asking you to update your payment method. You still have access to the Telegram channel during this period.
- If retries succeed, the subscription returns to Active and access continues. You’re not interrupted.
- If all retries fail, the subscription becomes Unpaid and access is revoked. The bot removes you from the Telegram channel.
What to do when you get a failed payment email
Section titled “What to do when you get a failed payment email”- Open Purchases and open the subscription.
- Click Manage payment methods in the Stripe portal block to open the customer portal.
- Update the card or pick a different payment method.
- Stripe will retry the charge. If it succeeds, you’re back to normal.
You can also wait for the next automatic retry, but updating manually is faster and avoids accidentally hitting the unpaid status.
After being marked unpaid
Section titled “After being marked unpaid”If your subscription is already Unpaid:
- Re-enter the customer portal and add a working payment method.
- Stripe will resume the subscription and charge you.
- Open the Telegram app from your purchase again and use the invite link or QR. The bot approves your request and you’re back in the channel.
If too much time has passed and the subscription is fully cancelled, you may need to subscribe again.
