Downgrade your plan
Plan downgrades are done from the Stripe customer portal and are scheduled at the end of your current billing period. You’re not charged extra and you keep the benefits of your current plan until the period ends.
- Go to Account → Billing.
- Click Manage billing and plans. The Stripe customer portal opens.
- In the portal, pick the lower plan. Stripe schedules the change for the end of the current period.
- The Billing page shows a notice with the new plan and the date.
Cancelling a scheduled downgrade
Section titled “Cancelling a scheduled downgrade”If you change your mind, go back to the Stripe portal and cancel the scheduled change. You’ll keep your current plan as if nothing happened.
What happens at the period end
Section titled “What happens at the period end”- Your plan changes to the lower tier.
- The new flat fee starts on the next renewal.
- The new commission per sale applies to new charges from that moment on.
- Existing subscriptions your buyers already have keep their old commission until their own next renewal — see When a plan change updates your subscriptions.
Why downgrades aren’t immediate
Section titled “Why downgrades aren’t immediate”Stripe doesn’t refund the unused portion of a paid period when you go to a cheaper plan. Scheduling at the period end means you get the full value of what you paid for.
